Café Belmont

A matcha bar and specialty coffee shop in Kazimierz, Kraków, a short walk from Plac Nowy. Here matcha is the starting point, not an add-on to coffee.

A matcha bar in Kazimierz

Café Belmont is a place where the day starts with a properly made matcha and specialty coffee. We whisk the matcha into a smooth foam so the taste is full and gently sweet, not bitter. Alongside it we serve simple Japanese food: onigiri and breakfast sets until noon.

More about our matcha and coffee

We source our matcha from Yume and keep three grades. Yume Asa is the everyday one, mild and clean. Yume Hana is more expressive, with a higher note of sweetness. Yume Hoshi is the ceremonial grade, thick and intense, for people who want to taste matcha in full. We make any of them as a hot matcha latte, an iced matcha latte or, our way, a matcha tonic with tonic and ice.

If you prefer coffee, the whole menu is specialty: from espresso and flat white to batch brew, cold brew and espresso tonic. You choose the milk, plant-based too, Oatly or Sproud. In summer we add seasonal drinks like jasmine yuzu honey matcha iced tea or pina colada iced matcha.

Our matcha is Yume

Yume is our own matcha brand. We run it together with Café Belmont and bring it straight from Kyoto, Japan. The same matcha you drink here in a cup you can buy for home from the Yume shop.

Three grades

Yume Asa
Everyday, mild and clean. The best base for a matcha latte and iced versions.
Yume Hana
More expressive, with a higher note of natural sweetness. For those who want to taste the matcha through the milk.
Yume Hoshi
The ceremonial grade, thick and intense. Best drunk without milk, whisked on water alone, to feel the full taste.
What ceremonial matcha is

Ceremonial matcha is the top tier. For a few weeks before harvest the tea bushes are shaded, which raises chlorophyll and l-theanine and cuts the bitterness. Only the youngest leaves are picked, de-veined and stone-ground into a powder finer than flour. That is why good matcha is vivid green, smooth and full of umami, not flat and bitter. You whisk it rather than steep it, and drink the whole leaf.
